Prevalence and Magnitude of Presbyopia in Chikun LGA, Kaduna, Nigeria
Abstract
Presbyopia is a universal age-related condition due to progressive loss of accommodation, sclerosis of fibres and capsule of the crystalline lens.1 The World Health Organisation(WHO)2010 vision loss expert group reported that 1.09 billion and 666.7 million people aged 35 years and above, and 50 years respectively, suffer from uncorrected presbyopia.2,3 Previously, the magnitude of uncorrected refractive error (URE) was underestimated partly because it was considered less of a problem compared with distance vision impairment, especially in low-income countries. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and magnitude of presbyopia in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.
